PUMP INSTALLATION

WHY INSTALL A PUMPED DRAINAGE SYSTEM?

Typically, wastewater is dispersed through a gravity-fed system, allowing the fluid to flow gradually downhill. However, when this isn't feasible, a pumping system can be installed instead. In certain situations, a pumping system may also be a more cost-effective option than constructing a gravity-fed system over long distances or across challenging terrain.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

Pumped drainage systems are utilised to remove wastewater, surface water, and sewage from areas with low gravity or where connecting to a drain or watercourse may be challenging.
Typically located underground, the pumped drainage system enables wastewater to collect under gravity before being pumped through pipework and discharged into a watercourse, drainage field, or sewer.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

In a pumped drainage system, the wastewater is collected and channeled towards a sump through pipework laid to a standard gradient. As the water level in the sump rises, float switches are triggered, activating the pump to move the liquid out of the sump and into the mains drain or watercourse.

WHAT NEXT?

Now that you have made the decision to install a pumped drainage system it would help to gain as much knowledge of your existing system as possible.
Like all drainage systems,  wastewater discharge must comply with General Binding Rules and be of sufficiently treated before entering a watercourse.

1 WE WILL EXAMINE YOUR EXISTING SYSTEM

There are many factors that will define the design of the pumped system, including the type and amount of wastewater, the distance of transfer, access to mains drain or a watercourse.

2 WE WILL DESIGN THE SYSTEM

We will provide designs for the pumped system taking into consideration the existing ground conditions, topography, your wastewater flow rate, maintenance access needs and the power supply available, ensuring that the pumped system fully integrates into your existing drainage network and property.

3 INSTALLATION

We will excavate a hole and pour a concrete base on top of hardcore. The collection tank will be laid onto the wet base to secure in place, ensuring the pipes and connections are all correctly positioned. The pipework will be connected and the hole surrounding the tank is backfilled with concrete, taking care to keep the tank perfectly level at all times.
Once the concrete is set we will install the pumps and float switches, position the control panel, and make the final electrical connections.
